2024 Hawaii Justice Foundation Annual Meeting
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the Hawaii Justice Foundation (“HJF”) held its annual meeting at Ali‘iolani Hale, the Hawai‘i Supreme Court building. Those who attended enjoyed remarks by Robert LeClair, Executive Director of HJF, and William Hunt, HJF President. Hawai‘i Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald was honored with a Spirit of Justice award.
“We selected Chief Justice Recktenwald to receive the Spirit of Justice Award in 2017 because of his leadership in bringing access to justice to prominence in Hawai‘i,” said HJF President William S. Hunt. “We honored him with the award again this year because he is certainly one of our country’s leaders in access to justice. Chief Justice Recktenwald is by far the most committed chief justice with whom HJF has the privilege to work on various access to justice projects.”
Second Circuit Chief Judge Joseph Cardoza (ret.), who is Chair of the Hawai‘i Access to Justice Commission, provided an update on the current activities of the Commission, followed by Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald who spoke about removing the barriers to access to justice.
Kevin Block, a Maui immigration attorney, spoke passionately about the Maui wildfires and the remaining challenges.
