APPLICATION FOR COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP (fillable)

The Hawai`i Access to Justice Commission does not render legal advice, place cases for representation with lawyers, make recommendations, or make referrals in connection with any individual case. The Commission is not a legal services provider and does not provide advice or services to any litigant, prospective litigant, or anyone having legal questions or involved in a legal dispute.  Inquiries regarding such matters cannot be responded to or answered by the Commission.

Several legal services providers are listed on these pages (under the “How to Help” tab) for information purposes. As in other circumstances, in the event one wants to contact a provider, providers must be contacted directly, and each provider itself solely makes the decision as to whether and to what extent it will respond to an inquiry or matter.

If you seek help from the legal service providers, you can link to the Hawai`i Legal Services Portal at:

Committees

The Hawai`i Access to Justice Commission, which was created in May, 2008 by the new Hawai`i Supreme Court Rule 21, formed several committees to assist in carrying out its work.  Specifically, the Commission initially established three committees intended to address operational issues for the Commission and ten subject matter committees.

The charter responsibilities for the committees, which were adopted by the Commission, are drawn from the purposes of the Commission, as set forth in Rule 21, and the Action Plan proposed by the Access to Justice Hui in the latter part of 2007.  The following substantive committees are currently active:

Committee on Education, Communications, and Conference Planning
Committee on Increasing Pro Bono Legal Services
Committee on Initiatives to Enhance Civil Justice
Committee on Overcoming Barriers to Access to Justice
Committee on Paralegals and Other Nonlawyers
Committee on Maximizing the Use of Available Resources for Separating and Divorcing Families in Hawaii

Individuals interested in serving on one of the committees are invited to express their interest and provide the application below and a resume to Judge Joseph E. Cardoza (ret.), Chair, Hawai`i Access to Justice Commission at <joecmaui@earthlink.net>.
